A labour of love

This is an incredible journey by two researchers - practitioners inspired by cutting edge research in education from the West and age old wisdom from the East to develop a pedagogy that brings an inclusive, experiential and purposeful educational experience for students. They created a space for students and teachers to develop critical thinking, reasoning, intuition, consciousness, self knowledge...while meeting rigorous curricular benchmarks to help them succeed at life and face head on the evolving challenges of the world today. In 1998, they created a school and teacher centre to apply and test this unique pedagogy. Now, they share best practices of this educational movement to individual teachers and schools who choose to embrace it.

About the Pedagogy

This pedagogy was developed in 1999 by taking inspiration from the educational theories of Piaget (1998), Vygotsky (1998), Kakar (1997), Neuro-linguistic Programming (Bandler & Grinder, 1981), Krishnamurti (1974), Gandhi (1969), Erikson (1968), Aurobindo (1956), Dewey (1938), Freinet (1927), Gestalt, Yoga, Shamanism and meditation. The active learning strategies and experiential pedagogy in this methodology require children to undertake projects linked to their own real life context. It uses easily available resources in our surrounding that includes the body, space, material resources and the group to generate outcomes that become resources for the learning process.

GRL: Co Creative Experiential Learning TM

This teaching methodology was developed by Dr.Pascal Chazot, it was the subject of his doctoral thesis from University of Paris 13 (France) in 2006. It was developed into experiential teacher training modules by Dr. Anju Kauwr Chazot as part of her doctoral research at King's College (UK) in 2020. Generated Resource Learning (GRL) is the building block of this experiential learning educational movement. GRL can be summarised as a pedagogy of a spiral experiential learning. Subject knowledge is delivered through a concept based curriculum and is integrated in a multi-disciplinary way through class projects that are meaningful, relevant, engaging. GRL pedagogy uses available material and immaterial resources that include the body, different senses, space and movement. The learning process is based on a physical and human interation between the child and her/his environment. Children learn to research autonomously and present work with academic rigour. They create outcomes of professional standards such as films, calendars, food, products, booklets, ebooks, apps, 3D models, presentations etc. that become a resource for further learning by the same group or another group.

Inclusive Education

The core philosophy of the school is to use the diversity of the class group as a learning tool.
The school thus integrates students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds as well as diverse abilities into the mainstream classroom.
As a precursor to the Right to Education Act, MGIS has been providing equal opportunities and inclusive education and has been reaching out to all sections of society including the elite and economically disadvantaged.

Our Team
of researchers- practitioners

The co-creative experiential has been implemented at the Mahatma Gandhi International School in India (Ahmedabad), thanks to the labor and researches of bachelors, masters and doctorate level academicians, educators with diverse backgrounds and interests, and award winning teachers. They are redefining the teacher-student relationship and promoting an environment where students find them approachable, relatable, dynamic and supportive. They are qualified and bring innovation and expertise to their class-room.

The Co-Creative Experiential Learning uses tools like technology, Cuisenaire rods, Tangram, Atrimath etc. and undergo rigorous in-house training and professional certification from the International Baccalaureate, BTEC, British Council, Harvard Teaching for Understanding, Apple Distinguished Educator trainings etc.
